Crabapple is the historic crossroads downtown of the City of Milton, Georgia, in the southwestern corner of the city and in Fulton County. Living here means Milton city services, Fulton County water and sewer, Fulton County Schools, and a private trash hauler you pick yourself. This page sets out each of those from the agency that runs it, with the date we checked.

Where Crabapple sits
The City of Milton describes Crabapple as the heart of Milton, in the southwestern corner of the city, and home to City Hall, the Milton Library and many of the city’s schools. Milton itself officially began on December 1, 2006, after more than 85 percent of voters approved the cityhood referendum. It borders Cherokee County to the north and west, Forsyth County to the east, Roswell to the southwest and Alpharetta to the south.
A Crabapple mailing address can say Alpharetta or 30009 and still sit inside Milton. The Milton Library’s address uses ZIP 30009, yet the US Census geocoder places it in Milton city and in ZIP code tabulation area 30004. The ZIP alone does not tell you the city. Our article on whether a Crabapple address is Milton or Alpharetta walks through how to check one.

Schools zoned to the City Hall block
Downtown Crabapple is served by Fulton County Schools. The district’s 2026-27 attendance zone map assigns the Milton City Hall block to these three schools, all on Birmingham Highway:
- Crabapple Crossing Elementary School (K-5), 12775 Birmingham Hwy.
- Northwestern Middle School (6-8), 12805 Birmingham Hwy.
- Milton High School (9-12), 13025 Birmingham Highway.
That is one block, for one school year. Crabapple Middle School is a different school in Roswell. Zones are drawn street by street and can change, so check any specific address:
Fulton County Schools says to confirm a specific address's zone with its Office of Student Assignment at (470) 254-5550; zones can change. (Fulton County Schools, checked Oct 18, 2026)
Property tax rates, and which ones are final
A Milton tax bill stacks several rates. Georgia property is assessed at 40 percent of fair market value, and one mill is $1 per $1,000 of assessed value, per the City of Milton. Here is where each rate stood on October 18, 2026.
| Levy | Rate | Status |
|---|---|---|
| City of Milton operating | 4.193 mills | Last year’s rate, for tax year 2025 |
| City of Milton operating, 2026 | 4.193 mills advertised | Not adopted yet. Council votes October 19, 2026, at 6 p.m.; the advertised rate is below the 4.205-mill rollback rate |

The City expects its 2026 city property tax bills in late October 2026, due in mid-to-late December.
Water, trash and emergency care
Fulton County’s Department of Public Works provides water, sewer and stormwater service in north Fulton, including Milton, per Develop Fulton. Accounts are handled by the county’s Water and Sewer Billing and Collections Division. Milton runs no garbage service of its own. Residents and businesses hire one of the private haulers the City permits.
The nearest hospital emergency department is Wellstar North Fulton at 3000 Hospital Boulevard in Roswell, open 24 hours, phone (770) 751-2505. It is a Level II Trauma Center. For any emergency, call 911. The Milton Police and Fire non-emergency line is 678-297-6300, option 1.
How the village is built
Crabapple has its own rulebook. The Crabapple form-based code still applies and is built into Milton’s Unified Development Code as Article 7A; the code was adopted April 8, 2024. One stated goal in the code text is that everyday activities be within walking or bicycling distance of most homes. It also requires open parking lots to be screened from the street by a building or streetscreen, which is why most lots sit behind the buildings. Milton adopted the Crabapple Conceptual Master Plan in 2012 to guide a village center, per Appen Media.
The District at Mayfield is a city concept plan and code text for a nearly 19-acre area around downtown, inside the Crabapple area, with no rezoning.
Getting around on foot and by golf cart
From City Hall, the Green at Crabapple Market is about 4 minutes on foot, Broadwell Pavilion about 6 minutes and the Milton Library about 10 minutes (measured along OpenStreetMap streets and paths at about 3 mph). More pairs are in walking times around Crabapple.
Golf carts and other personal transportation vehicles must be registered with the City of Milton, with a $15 fee, and may run only on city streets posted at 25 mph or lower. They may not use Crabapple Road or Birmingham Highway, which are State Route 372, and there is currently no legal PTV crossing of that road. Drivers must be at least 16 with a valid license. The City also warns that SR 372 near the three schools backs up on weekday mornings and mid-afternoons, sometimes to the Heritage Walk roundabout.
Horse country around the village
About 85 percent of Milton’s land is zoned agricultural, meaning residential lots of at least 1 acre, per the City. The City calls its equestrian community a reflection of its deep rural heritage, and the Mayor and Council appoint a seven-member Equestrian Committee. On October 21, 2026, at 6:30 p.m., City Hall hosts a public input session on keeping large lots and horse farms.

Library, parks and the weather
The Milton Library at 855 Mayfield Rd. has a computer lab, meeting and study rooms, and serves as an early voting location. Milton city parks are open sunrise to sunset unless posted, and pets must be leashed.
