Park rules

The same City of Milton rules apply in every city park:

  • Parks are open from sunrise to sunset unless otherwise posted or permitted.
  • Pets must be leashed at all times, and owners clean up after them. Except for service animals, no pets on athletic fields.
  • No smoking, vaping or tobacco anywhere on park property, including trails and parking areas.
  • No drones.
  • Bicycles and skateboards only in designated areas, not on walkways.
  • No alcohol, except during rentals or special events with a city-issued alcohol permit.

More rules are in Chapter 34 of Milton’s City Code.

Horse country

The City of Milton calls its equestrian community a reflection of the city’s deep rural heritage. The City’s history page explains why: septic systems that needed lots of an acre or more kept Milton rural, and the area became known for horse farms as cotton faded. Today about 85 percent of Milton’s land is zoned agricultural, meaning residential lots of at least 1 acre.

The City has a seven-member Equestrian Committee appointed by the Mayor and Council. In early 2024 it produced a “census” map showing Milton horse farms spread between neighborhoods rather than clustered. On October 21, 2026, at 6:30 p.m., City Hall hosts a public input session on keeping large lots and horse farms. The committee is also planning an equestrian-themed summer camp for 2027; details are not final.

Trails: what exists and what is planned

Inside the village, Crabapple Market describes its shops and homes as connected by walkways and trails from the Crabapple Green, and the Crabapple form-based code aims to put everyday activities within walking or bicycling distance of most homes.

Citywide, Milton’s first trails committee (2019) focused on Crabapple, Deerfield, Birmingham Park and the Lackey Road greenspace and produced the Milton Community Trail Prioritization Plan, per the City. The City Council revived the Milton Trails Advisory Committee in April 2022 to advise on trails, sidewalks, multi-use paths and bike lanes. The Crabapple Area PTV Plan, passed August 1, 2022, maps multi-use paths for golf carts and other PTVs; those still need funding and construction.

Planning a day that mixes the two? The visit planner can add a park as its own stop. Families should also see with kids and dog owners dog friendly.
